New scientific partners in Charlie
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Albert Carbonell (Representative of the Scientific Committee of the Spanish association FamiliasGA and Research Associate at the Molecular Biology Institute of Barcelona, IBMB-CSIC), who has so far worked as a family representative along with Hanka Dekker and other representatives, is also joining the CHARLIE project from a scientific perspective.
He will form a team with extensive expertise in mitochondrial metabolism and neurodevelopmental diseases along with two group leaders: Marc Liesa (Principal Investigator at the Molecular Biology Institute of Barcelona, IBMB-CSIC) and Naiara Akizu (Principal Investigator at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute).
Several researchers from the CHARLIE Project including Clara van Karnebeek, Álex Garanto, Cristina Fillat, and Dirk Lefeber have supported this team in applying parallel funding through Spanish grants, contributing as collaborators on a project closely related to the objectives of the CHARLIE project (titled "Pathogenic mechanism and biomarker for GCDH deficiency"). We hope for success and securing funding to continue advancing research on GA1 and PDE.
